The snow and wind were fierce coming over the Chilkoot Pass. Over twenty feet of
snow, huge drifts and avalanche paths a plenty. Then we were met with open
waters that turned to ice that turned to toil and great joy. After a very cold
and difficult week and a half start to the trip we were rewarded with
unsurpassed hospitality at Six Mile River Resort, where we
are taking a brief breather and hoping for some more ice to melt and get off
these lakes. Here are some photos to whet your appetite. More details will come
in a few weeks. Until then...

We are all rooting for you! Already it is an amazing expedition. Hopefully the ice will melt soon, and your toil will lessen. No matter what, this is the making of a great adventure story. Enjoy it, and each other!

I want to thank the folks at Six Mile River Resort for taking in my grandson, Peter Marshall, and my 3 "adopted for the summer "grandsons. If I were 58 instead of 85 I would call and make reservations at SMRR for JULY--arriving via the Klondike Hwy. That certainly doesn't look like camp food on those plates! My best to all.

Oh my word! Those mountains are incredible. It's crazy to know y'all are delayed by ice when it was 90 here in Georgia yesterday. Hope you enjoy the respite before the real party gets started. :)

We were so thrilled to see you paddling Six Mile River on Wednesday afternoon, we had heard via the Mocassin Telegraph, that 4 Young men from Minissota were headded over the Pass and canoeing through the territory to Hudson Bay. Increadible , this time of year, as the ice had just broken from Tagish Lake and beyond. We had just had a down pour of 2 feet of snow, but by mid day, Wednesday the sun was out and the snow was slowly melting. Looking out over the river, the water fowl played, then we saw them, paddling, crazy guys! I Whissled as loud as I could to get their attention and call them in for a hot drink. 2 days later we said are fairwells, shared alot of storie and enjoyed the company. Steve, thanks so much for the spoon you wittled, i'll always remember you, frozen , walking over the bridge. Steve, Windchill,Pete and Matt, You guys are so courageous and adventurist, I will pray that your journey is a safe one. Don't forget to blow the whisle if you see a bear! Miss you guys already. PS I will forward the write up from our Local News papers to you once I see them published, You guys are celebraty in Yukon HORAYY for you all. Mitch

This is one of the most adventurous things any person has done for the fun of doing it. The expedition is already a great success among many aspiring canoe fans. Your page contains many good pictures that are very tempting.
